Sheikh Dawood was born at (Bri-Kuji) Habba Kadal, Srinagar latter on moved to Diarwan, the present Batamaloo, Srinagar where his mausoleum stands with all its magnificence and serenity. Ziarat Hazrat Batmaloo (ra) is among the most revered shrines in Srinagar, Kashmir.
In Kashmir, Sheikh Dawood is considered among the top Sufi Saints of the valley, devout preacher of Islam and a great social reformer.
Mention has been made regarding his life and work by noted Kashmir Historian Khawaja Muhammad Azam Didmari in his monumental work Waqat-i-Kashmir and by Muhammad Din Fouq in his Buzurgan-i-Kashmir gives a detailed account of his mission
According to the historians and his devotess Hazrat Sheikh Dawood made radical innovation. He did not accept the offerings, took recourse to cultivation of land, rising crops and utilizing the produce by organizing community kitchen (langer), feeding needy and hungry. And that is why he is commonly known as ‘Bote Mol’.
